Scan Protocols

General guidance that applies to most digital cases. Detailed protocols by service and scanner are published once the laboratory confirms them.

  • Preparation

Capture after the field is clean, dry and free of visible debris.

  • Margins

Ensure the finish line is visible and uninterrupted in the scan.

  • Opposing arch

Capture the opposing arch as required for the case type.

  • Bite

Record occlusion in maximum intercuspation unless the Rx says otherwise.

  • Photographs

Add photographs when shade or contour matters to the result.

  • Review before sending

Check the scan for holes and distortion before submitting.
